The place
Burbank sits at the southeastern end of the San Fernando Valley, about 7 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, with the Verdugo Mountains along its northern border and Griffith Park to the south. Known as the Media Capital of the World, it is home to the headquarters of Warner Bros. and The Walt Disney Company.
The city is named for David Burbank, who started a sheep ranch here in 1867 on land from two old ranchos, and it incorporated in 1911 as the first independent city in the San Fernando Valley. The Rancho area along Riverside Drive is zoned for horses and lined with sycamores and oaks, with riding trails into Griffith Park.
