The place

Sherman Oaks is a neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley, and its roughly 9 square miles take in a wide stretch of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is bordered by Studio City to the east, Van Nuys to the north, Encino to the west, and Bel Air and the Beverly Hills Post Office area to the south, with the Los Angeles River along its northern edge.

General Moses Sherman, a partner in the Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company, developed Sherman Oaks on 1,000 acres the company had subdivided. Ventura Boulevard runs through the neighborhood. Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park has a pool, ball fields and a gym, and Sherman Oaks Castle Park offers miniature golf and batting cages.
