The place
Oak Park is an unincorporated community in southeastern Ventura County, set in valleys of the Simi Hills beneath Simi Peak. It borders North Ranch in Thousand Oaks to the west and Agoura Hills and Westlake Village to the south, with the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area on its north and east sides and Rancho Simi Open Space to the south.
Medea Creek and Lindero Creek, the largest of its many small creeks, feed Malibu Creek on its way through the Santa Monica Mountains. The land was once part of Rancho Simi, and Lindero Canyon Road follows the grant’s old western boundary. Homes were built starting in the late 1960s, and parks such as Oak Canyon Community Park and the Medea Creek Park Trail are run by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.
